According to AS, Courtois' left quadriceps injury sustained during the World Cup is not serious and will not affect his participation in the first round of the new La Liga season.
The tension between Thibaut Courtois and Belgium coach Rudi Garcia over Courtois' substitution in the quarter-final against Spain continues to escalate, but at least the Belgian goalkeeper's injury is no longer a major concern. An MRI scan this morning showed the injury is minor and will not affect his La Liga opener against Espanyol at the RCDE Stadium on August 23. The club even believes it won't affect his pre-season training, expecting him to return to first-team training in the last week of July, by which time the injury should have fully healed. However, he will miss the friendly against Fiorentina in Klagenfurt, Austria on August 1.
Courtois himself appeared relieved as he left the Valdebebas clinic on Monday, officially beginning his vacation. He will follow medical advice to recover from his injured muscle. After his break and reflection (on his future with the Belgian national team), he will face Mourinho and new goalkeeping coach Nuno Santos at Real Madrid.
