Amidst ongoing speculation surrounding the selection of the German national team coach, SPORT1 expert and former German international Basler shared his views on Jürgen Klopp's potential appointment on a television program. He believes that if Klopp were to coach the German team, he should proactively lower his salary demands and emphasized that the national team coach's compensation should be open and transparent.
During the World Cup segment on SPORT1, Basler first addressed the rumors surrounding his salary.
He said, "I just hope things don't revolve around the salary figure currently circulating, which is said to be 10 million euros. I would be somewhat disappointed if he only accepted the job for the money. Becoming the German national team coach should be an honor. His salary should be much lower."
For Klopp, money is no longer an issue. His next three generations are financially secure. Therefore, I hope the salary of the German national team coach will be made public.
When discussing who should take the initiative to push for salary adjustments, Basler focused on Klopp himself.
He said, "I wish Klopp could say, 'Give me 2 million euros a year, the important thing is to move German football forward.' Since the German Football Association already has no money and has to bear another expense, is it necessary to take 10 million euros?"
He explained that the additional expenditure mainly stemmed from the fact that the German Football Association still needed to pay Nagelsmann a termination fee, and that additional compensation might also be required to hire Klopp.
Finally, Basler reiterated his core point, stating, "This can't just be about money. For Klopp, the important thing is to push German football forward."
