Cape Verde goalkeeper Voznia, who performed brilliantly at this summer's World Cup, has become a social media sensation, but he admits that this newfound fame is not always easy to handle.
The 40-year-old goalkeeper helped Cape Verde reach the round of 16 in the World Cup, and now Voznia's social media following has skyrocketed, with over 29 million followers.
When Vozinha appeared on CBS Mornings on Thursday, he talked about his sudden fame and admitted that he was a little uncomfortable: "This is something I never expected. But it's also a bit complicated for me. I like to interact with people. Cape Verdeans are hospitable, we can cook on the street, eat standing at the door. But now, I can't do any of that."
Voziña concluded by saying he was "very happy" because "before, when we went around the world, people would always ask where we were when they heard we were from Cape Verde… Now we don't need to explain anymore, and I think that's the best outcome." The Cape Verdean goalkeeper, currently a free agent, had a stunning performance at the World Cup but didn't reveal his next destination, only saying he wanted to play for "another year or two."
