More than two weeks have passed since the German team was eliminated from the World Cup, and Nagelsmann has been dismissed. However, Thomas Müller once again criticized Nagelsmann's personnel decisions on MagentaTV.
Müller stated, "We (referring to Nagelsmann) haven't really figured out where top players should play, and we struggle a lot when making choices. Musiala, Wirtz, who should play which position? We know they both like to play in the middle. Then there's always this debate about whether Havertz is a qualified center forward."
Müller not only mentioned Havertz, but he also re-examined Kimmich's position.
Müller said, "Where should we put the key players? Because Kimmich is obviously a key player. But have you put him in a crucial position? This is completely different in other national teams. Their top stars play in the same position for their national team as they play for their club."
Although Kimmich was placed at right-back for some reason, Müller also believed that Kimmich had an advantage in this position when facing opponents who were completely dominated by the German team in terms of possession and whose games were played entirely in the opponent's half.
However, Müller emphasized: "If you consider that our top players are playing in positions they are not good at, or at least positions they are forced to adapt to, then this tactical concept may be fundamentally wrong. If that's the case, I would rather put a less capable starter in that position."
Müller believes that other national teams, such as Spain, England, or France, utilize their top stars in entirely different ways. After comparing himself to these teams, Müller concluded: "We have fewer top stars. We have potential, but the key is who can actually realize it. In this respect, other countries and other players are simply better."
