In an interview with the Munich Evening News, German legend Hamann reiterated his call for a major overhaul of the German national team.

After Germany's elimination from the World Cup by Paraguay, Hamann advocated for a complete rebuild and once again questioned captain Joshua Kimmich.

Hamann stated, "I don't think Kimmich, Goretzka, and Sané should play any role anymore." Hamann had already discussed the future of these three players on Sky Sports shortly after Germany's elimination.

Especially regarding Kimmich, Hammann said: "With Kimmich, we never went any further in the last five major tournaments, at most reaching the quarterfinals. I can't help but ask, why is it different two years later?"

Hamann believes Schlotterbeck can become the new captain. Furthermore, he sees Nmega as a key figure for the future. "The team should be built around him for the future."

Overall, Hamann believes the German team is stronger than recently described. "The starting lineup is fully competitive."

Therefore, he blamed former coach Nagelsmann for the team's early exit from the World Cup. "If you have a coach who isn't interested and has only watched a few games, then it's not surprising to end up like this."
