The day after Argentina finished as runners-up in the World Cup, Rosario Central FC posted a congratulatory message on social media, which sparked controversy.
Rosario Central's post featured a group photo of the starting lineup when Lo Celso played against Jordan in the group stage, but captain Messi was not in it (Note: Messi came on as a substitute in the 60th minute).
In response to the controversy, Rosario Central issued a statement explaining that the post was intended to highlight Lo Celso, who came from the club's youth academy, and was not intended to deliberately ignore other players. The statement emphasized that the club has always held absolute respect for all members of the Argentine national team, especially Messi himself, and has maintained a good relationship with Messi's family for many years.
The club also stated that they will initiate legal proceedings against some of the attacks directed at the club following the post. Argentine government officials should not focus their energy on such sports topics and attempts to manipulate public opinion; they should be concerned with more important national affairs.
