According to AS, the Spanish Football Federation plans to discuss a contract extension with De la Fuente after the summer.
Spanish Football Federation president Rafael Luzan hopes to extend the contract of current coach De la Fuente for another two years, allowing him to continue overseeing the national team's development leading up to the 2030 World Cup. The current contract expires after Euro 2028, but Luzan has prioritized extending it.
In an interview with AS, Luiz stated that he hoped to sit down with De la Fuente and his agent as soon as possible to discuss a contract extension. "We can assume that De la Fuente will coach for a long time. I've already completed his last contract extension. This time it's my turn to do that important, necessary, and reasonable extension, to extend and improve this relationship. I'm proud that he helped us reach an agreement back then. We have a promise to history in 2030, and we hope Luiz can be a part of it."
Luzan's statement is merely a directional signal from the Spanish Football Federation. The Spanish side believes that De la Fuente is the most suitable person to continue leading the team and maintain the competitiveness he has demonstrated since taking office. The two sides will meet after the summer to discuss when to formally finalize a new contract. 2030 will be a crucial year for Spanish sports, and the Spanish Football Federation believes that the national team is now under the most suitable leadership. De la Fuente was previously promoted from the Spanish U21 team to the first team and led them to victory in the UEFA Nations League shortly after taking over as manager.
