Bayern Munich president Herbert Hainer spoke for the first time about Jürgen Klopp's upcoming appointment as head coach of the German national team, calling the appointment "very appropriate."
“What we need now is motivation, a restart, and an atmosphere. We have great players, and everything has to be put back together. And I believe Jürgen Klopp is absolutely the most suitable person for the job,” Hainer said in Munich on Wednesday.
Hainer also stated that Klopp "has a strong appeal at all levels, including players, staff, and fans; he can do that." He added, "He can win people over and get them to accept his ideas. He can inspire the players and the whole team, getting them onto the pitch at over 100%." Therefore, Hainer believes that Klopp taking on this important position is "a good option."
Hainer said that after three consecutive World Cup defeats, the German team was shrouded in a "gloomy atmosphere." "If Jürgen Klopp has any strength, it's creating an atmosphere of fresh start—he has proven this at every club he has managed. From Mainz to Dortmund to Liverpool, he has been very successful wherever he went. He has brought the fans, the players, and the entire club together. This is also good for the German Football Association."
Hainer frankly admitted that, as a fan, he "felt heartbroken when Germany was eliminated in the round of 32, or even in the group stage like in the previous two World Cups. We are the world's largest football association, having won the World Cup many times and watched many exciting matches. As fans, we really want to see those again." And Klopp can bring all of that to the table.
