According to British media reports, Manchester City are increasingly confident of signing Lille midfielder Ayub Bouadi.
Bouadi, a rising star from Morocco's World Cup debut, has become a transfer target for several Premier League giants this summer. The prodigy has previously held talks with Arsenal and Liverpool, and Chelsea are also monitoring his progress. However, Manchester City believe they are close to a deal, with Lille reportedly setting a €100 million (approximately £85.3 million) price tag on the star.
It is understood that Manchester City will not loan Buadi back to Lille for further development. Lille had previously made it clear they preferred to postpone the 18-year-old's transfer for another year. The Ligue 1 club is willing to sell, but they can offer a discount if the club accepts a loan back or pre-signing agreement – the deal could be reduced to €80 million if Manchester City allows Buadi to stay at Lille for another year. However, Manchester City manager Enzo Maresca wants the midfielder to join the team immediately.
British journalist Ben Jacobs revealed on July 1st: "This is a very interesting transfer because Lille is prepared to sell, but they prefer to complete the deal in 2027, while Manchester City is at least willing to discuss that option." He added: "The current price is €80 million, but the price can be lowered if a loan-back agreement or pre-signing is agreed upon. For clubs wanting to complete the transfer immediately, the price is €100 million. This deal is worth watching."
Buadi shone at the World Cup, starting five matches in the North American campaign. He was particularly impressive in the 1-1 draw against Brazil, with the most touches (88), the most duels won (11), and the most successful passes in the opponent's half (30). His 60 successful passes also made him the second youngest player in 60 years to complete 50 or more passes in a single World Cup match. He continued to impress against Scotland, the Netherlands, and Canada, but struggled against France.
Bouadi remains one of the most sought-after midfielders in football today, and Manchester City are hoping to complete the deal. Maresca, about to begin his managerial season, needs to strengthen the midfield after Bernardo Silva's departure. City have already signed Elliott Anderson for £116 million, but Bouadi could join that group of talented players. City have already signed Anderson, Jeremy Munga, Piers Charles, and Matisse De Turbe this summer.
