Before the league break on May 24th, you finished the season with a hat-trick; and today, returning to the field, you scored twice. Tell us how you feel right now.

All I did was try my best to help the team and help it continue to grow. We went through a long break, so winning today was very important to get back into rhythm and prepare for the next game.

You've been proving that you don't have an "expiration date." You're sharper than ever now.

I've been training really hard. We had a really good preseason training session this week. Even at this age, I'm still proving my hunger for football, a passion I've had since I was a kid. From my first appearance as a child, everything has been earned through my own hard work, and I'll continue to give it my all until the very last day.

With Messi and De Paul out, all the responsibility and pressure obviously fell on you; you had to get things done in your name. Did they contact you or send you messages after the World Cup?

No, of course we know how important these two players are, especially Messi, and what he means to us. Now it's their turn to rest; after several weeks of playing for the national team, they need a break. And we must take on our share of responsibility, not just as one person, but as part of the collective work we've been doing to prepare for the rest of the season.

Finally, I won't take up any more of your time. How would you rate Messi's performance in this World Cup?

This is certainly admirable; it's yet another testament to his desire to be the best player in the world. He gave his all for his country until the very last match. Considering his age and everything he showed, there's nothing to criticize him for. He's a role model for all football fans—at his age, he could have stayed home, but he carried the same burning desire to prove himself again, wanting to win another World Cup for his country, which, unfortunately, didn't happen.
