According to Diario Sport, Spain's journey to winning their second World Cup title will be made into a documentary series. The Spanish Football Federation and Prime Video will release a four-episode series in December, reconstructing Spain's path to victory in the 2026 World Cup from the inside.
This series will present never-before-seen footage, private conversations, and testimonies from key figures in the journey. Spain's journey ended on July 19th last year at Metropolitan Life Stadium in New Jersey. Spain defeated Argentina 1-0 in extra time, with Ferran Torres scoring in the 106th minute to become world champions again after 16 years.
This documentary will showcase the daily lives of 26 players and coaching staff during their 52-day training camp. Beyond the matches, the production will delve into the team's dynamics, jokes, tense moments, challenges, and the decisions that helped build a championship-winning team.
Luis de la Fuente's role will undoubtedly be a key focus. The Spanish manager completed a cycle in the United States, leading the team to victories in the 2023 UEFA Nations League and the 2024 European Championship. The World Cup title also attests to the success of this generation of players, including Rodri, Lamin Yamal, Ferran Torres, Pedri, Nico Williams, and Mikel Oyarzabal.
This documentary series will also showcase how the Spanish team coped with the highest intensity of the new World Cup format. This year's tournament featured 48 teams, with the finalists playing eight matches. Spain ultimately lifted the trophy thanks to their control of the game, solid defense, and competitive spirit displayed in the most challenging moments.
This production, a joint effort between the Spanish Football Federation and Telefónica Broadcast Services, is available in over 200 countries and regions. This will be the seventh documentary produced by the Spanish Football Federation, following "Luis, the Wise Man of Success," "The Fifth Generation of the Fifth," "The Power of the Group," "The First Star: Decade," "The World Cup for All," and "A Team Called Spain."
The Spanish Football Federation will continue its practice of showing locker rooms and training camps in previous major tournament documentaries, revealing content that would not normally appear on broadcast. "A Team Called Spain," scheduled to air after Euro 2024, will also consist of four episodes and includes footage of rooms, physiotherapy beds, and locker rooms.
Effort, teamwork, laughter, and tension will form the core elements of this documentary series. It aims to explain not only how Spain returned to the top of the world, but also how these 26 players eventually became one big family.
