TA: The International Olympic Committee will not investigate whether Gianni Infantino was involved in suspending Balogun's suspension.

The International Olympic Committee stated that it will not investigate whether FIFA President Gianni Infantino was involved in the decision to suspend the Balogun World Cup.

The Athletic reports that the International Olympic Committee (IOC) has stated it will not investigate whether FIFA President Gianni Infantino was involved in the decision to suspend U.S. striker José Manuel Balogun's World Cup suspension. Previously, there were allegations that Infantino may have been involved in the decision, but the FIFA president, who is also an IOC member, denied these allegations. The IOC stated that the complaint was beyond its jurisdiction.

Previously, the non-profit organization and advocacy group FairSquare filed a request accusing Infantino of failing to comply with the International Olympic Committee's rules on political neutrality, claiming that he violated the rules by "making statements or other explicit expressions of support for the US president."

FairSquare focuses on global labor and migrant rights, political oppression, and issues in the sports sector. One of its goals is to promote “more effective and democratic governance to prevent sports organizations from contributing to harm and suffering.”

FairSquare stated that if Infantino did indeed intervene at the request of US President Trump to overturn the decision to ban Balogun, it would constitute a violation of the principle of political neutrality and undermine the fairness and integrity of sport.

In 2020, when Gianni Infantino was sworn in as a member of the International Olympic Committee in Lausanne, Switzerland, he told Reuters: "I will always act independently of commercial and political interests, and will not be influenced by any racial or religious factors."

Part II of the Olympic Charter states: "Members of the International Olympic Committee shall not accept any authorization or instruction from governments, organizations or other parties that may interfere with their freedom of action and voting."

The International Olympic Committee said on Friday that the complaint filed by Gianni Infantino had been "fully analyzed," but the matter was not under the jurisdiction of its Ethics Committee.

The International Olympic Committee (IOC) stated: "The current complaint against the FIFA president concerns only the governance and management decisions of international sports federations, including their relationships with governments and the implementation of rules governing the sports they administer. Neither of these areas falls within the scope of the IOC Code of Ethics."
