According to Diario Sport, a 21-year-old man lost one of his testicles after being injured during a celebration near Plaza de Cibeles in Madrid, and his family is investigating the police officer involved.
Spain reached the World Cup final on July 14, having defeated France in the final. The match was considered perfect, with Luis de la Fuente's Spanish team displaying clear dominance, and the victory was celebrated enthusiastically that night.
Especially in Madrid, Spanish fans gathered around Plaza de Colón, where one of the giant screens was set up for watching the game from the street.
But for one Madrid family, this long-awaited day, this return to the final after 16 years, turned into a nightmare. During celebrations near Plaza de Colón, a 21-year-old was seriously injured after being struck in a police operation. His injuries required surgery, and he lost one of his testicles.
His father, Joaquin, said the family's top priority since then has been finding the responsible police officer. "We are looking for witnesses and more video footage. Finding the perpetrator is important so that similar incidents don't happen again," he said. He added that the officer was likely over 1.8 meters tall, physically strong, and had a beard, information that would help identify him.
At the time of the incident, Joaquín was outside Spain and learned of the news from a distance. "I was in Italy, far from home. When something like this happens to your child, and you're not by their side, the anxiety and pain are even more intense," he recalled. After returning to Madrid and confirming that his son was out of danger, he said his most important goal now is to pursue the case to the end through the legal process.
Joaquin criticizes police enforcement procedures
The young man's father questioned the severity of the police action. "I don't understand why the police would beat him so brutally with batons," he said. He also stated that doctors told him such severe injuries were very rare. "To the point of necrosis, ultimately requiring amputation, it must have been a very heavy blow," he said.
The released footage shows many fans occupying parts of the lanes during the celebrations, similar to scenes seen elsewhere in Spain after a team's success. In the exposed video of the attack, the young man is seen being struck while standing on a zebra crossing.
Joaquin also believes the operation may have violated police procedures. “Officers are trained to avoid hitting the face or genitals. I don’t understand why such basic rules would be broken. The important thing is to find the person who did this and prevent them from doing it again. Such a person is tarnishing the entire force and shouldn’t be wearing that uniform,” Joaquin said.
