Sky Sports: Dzeko has an 80% to 90% chance of renewing his contract with Schalke.

According to Sky Sports, there is an 80% to 90% chance that Dzeko will re-sign with Schalke 04.

Edin Dzeko's contract only runs until the end of last season. The 40-year-old striker scored 6 goals and provided 3 assists in 11 appearances in the 2. Bundesliga, helping Schalke 04 gain promotion to the Bundesliga, but his future was once uncertain.

On Thursday, Schalke 04 sporting director Frank Baumann remained cautious about Edin Dzeko's potential contract extension: "We have made some progress in negotiations, but it's mainly a contract issue. However, I can't say for sure whether we can find common ground and reach an agreement; either outcome is possible," Baumann said.

It is now widely believed that this newly promoted team will continue to rely on the striker's experience in the top league. Sky reports that an official announcement could even be made within the next few days. One of the reasons that accelerated this deal was Schalke 04's free transfer signing of center-back Maximilian Wöber from Leeds United. This allowed the team to address their central defensive needs at a lower cost than acquiring other center-backs, and also freed up more financial space to sign Edin Dzeko.

Bild previously reported that Schalke 04 offered Dzeko an annual salary of €900,000, which could reach a maximum of €1.3 million with bonuses. This would place the veteran among the highest-paid players in the Schalke 04 squad.

Schalke 04 coach Milon Muslic said after Saturday's 3-1 victory over Fagiano Okayama in a friendly: "We need players with character, leadership, and strong personalities. The Bundesliga is very challenging, so we specifically looked for players who can demonstrate this both on and off the field. We'll be bringing in one or two more players with strong personalities." He added with a meaningful smile. Many believe this statement might be hinting at the popularity of Edin Dzeko and other officially announced new signings.
