Spain's head coach, De la Fuente, visited fire victims at the Las Rozas Stadium in Madrid, saying it was "a responsibility and an honor."
According to Mundo Deportivo, Spain's national team coach Luis de la Fuente visited the La Mazuela Stadium in Las Rozas (Madrid) this Sunday to visit those affected by the fire and to encourage the evacuated residents. He stated, "It is a responsibility and an honor to be here."
"Everyone has a duty to help others and encourage them during these tragic times," said de la Fuente in an interview with Spanish National Radio. He believes the most important thing is to "try to make these people happy and let them feel the support and companionship of the whole of Spain."
The Spanish coach, who led his team to victory over Argentina in the World Cup final on July 19, emphasized that his way of helping was to "share their pain and help them calm down and cheer up a little." He explained, "What I want to do is try to make those who are going through suffering happy, even if it's just for a few hours. It's an honor to be here, and it makes us more humane. The most important thing now is to focus on human life." He added, "The whole of Spain is watching them; they have the support of the entire nation, just like we felt when we were playing."
De la Fuente also spoke about the work of the Spanish Football Federation, which has opened its official residence in Las Rozas Football City to the affected people to house vulnerable families who have been evacuated.
As of now, more than 116,000 people have been evacuated or are under quarantine due to the ongoing fires in various regions of Spain. The vast majority of these (approximately 100,000) are from the Madrid and Ávila regions, while another 16,000 have been evacuated from the eastern province of Castellón.
