Mundo: Polo dropped out of school to pursue his football dream, but later made up for it.

According to Diario Sport, Tottenham defender Porro recounted in an interview his experience of giving up his studies to pursue his football dream, and then returning to school.

The 26-year-old Porro is undoubtedly one of the biggest discoveries of the 2026 USA-Mexico World Cup. The Tottenham right-back started the World Cup as a backup to Marcos Llorente, but after Spain's 0-0 draw with Cape Verde, Luis de la Fuente decided to give the Don Benito-born player a starting position, and he has never lost it since. Furthermore, he scored the second goal in Spain's victory over France, helping the team secure a place in the final.

The Tottenham defender is incredibly proud to become the fifth player from Extremadura to represent Spain at the World Cup. In an interview with Galician Voice, he said, "I'm incredibly proud to be one of these five Extremadura players. I think there are many excellent people in Extremadura, but getting to this point is truly difficult and requires a lot of hard work. I say every day that I'm a privileged person to have this wonderful job, and I'm very proud of it."

To enter professional football, Porro had to give up many things, including his studies, but he later picked them up again. He admitted, "I just tried to balance playing football with my studies. Because when I went to Madrid, I had to give up ESO (secondary compulsory education), and then I had to make up for it later. When you want to achieve your dreams, you always have to make some sacrifices."

However, he also readily admitted to Voice of Galicia that he was not a good student, saying, "I only have football on my mind, I'm obsessed with football."

He added, "Later I had to catch up on my studies because it was very important to me, especially the values my family instilled in me. Being able to have both made me the happiest."

Polo revealed that he passed the ESO exam many years after leaving school: "I go to adult school in the afternoon because I train in the morning, so I study and play football at the same time."

Finally, he talked about his childhood: "My family was not well-off when I was a child. We suffered a lot financially, but what I remember most is my grandfather, who did everything he could to send me anywhere."
