Regarding Zinedine Zidane's impending appointment as the new head coach of the French national team, Laurent Blanc, a member of the 1998 World Cup-winning team and former head coach of the French national team, stated that he believes Zidane is fully capable of succeeding Deschamps.
Blanco spoke about this in a recent interview with Nice-Main.
“What does he (Zidane) have to be afraid of?” Blanco said.
“I’ve heard some things here: ‘This will be difficult, the French team is special…’ But honestly, what does Zidane see? What does he have to be afraid of?” said the man who won the 1998 World Cup with Zidane. “He’s won the Champions League three times as a coach and the World Cup as a player. Do you think this job will make him nervous?”
“He knows exactly what he’s going to face,” Blank emphasized. “He’ll be lauded when he wins and criticized when he loses. He’s seen it all. I know him a bit; he does this with immense joy. And I want that joy to be with us too. We have a generation of very good players, and he wants them to shine.”
Zidane's first two official matches will be in the UEFA Nations League against Italy and Belgium, on October 2nd and October 5th respectively. Both matches will be held at the Stade de France.
