On Monday local time, Pique gave an interview to ESPN during the Kings League Club World Cup, where he talked about his former teammate Messi.
Pique said: "Losing the World Cup final is very painful. Messi has once again proven himself to be the greatest player in history. He scored many goals and helped his country reach the final. He didn't win the championship, but I believe he must be very proud of what he has achieved."
"Messi and Ronaldo, for me, have been a wonderful clash between two different styles over the past 15 years. I think this is obviously the last few years of their careers, but even so, we still see them playing at a high level in this World Cup."
Speaking about the Spanish team, Pique said, "Spain played exceptionally well against France in the semi-final. They deserved the victory and proved themselves to be the best team in the world. Both teams have excellent young players. France has Mbappe, Dué, and Dembélé. Spain has the same – Yamal, Pedri, Kubasi…"
"Let's see what the future holds. The French team is changing coaches, and it looks like Zidane is coming, so let's see how this will affect the next European Championship and the next World Cup."
