According to TA on July 28, former Arsenal defender Takehiro Tomiyasu is currently training with Crystal Palace and is expected to complete his transfer this summer.
Takehiro Tomiyasu, 27, became a free agent after leaving Ajax when his contract expired at the end of the 2025-26 season. He is currently with Crystal Palace in Como for the team's preseason preparations and may play for Crystal Palace in a friendly match later this week.
While considering his next move, the Japanese international received offers from clubs in England and other European leagues, but he himself intends to return to the Premier League. Crystal Palace is currently providing Takehiro Tomiyasu with a high-level training environment to help him maintain and improve his form, preparing him for the new season.
In July 2025, Takehiro Tomiyasu reached an agreement with Arsenal to terminate his contract a year early. He has not played for Arsenal since October 2024 and underwent knee surgery in February 2025.
Takehiro Tomiyasu joined Arsenal from Bologna in 2021, making 84 appearances for the team, scoring 2 goals and providing 6 assists, but he was plagued by injuries in his last few seasons in North London.
In December 2025, Takehiro Tomiyasu transferred to Ajax, signing a six-month contract. He made nine appearances for the Dutch Eredivisie club in the second half of the 2025-26 season.
He was re-selected for Japan's 2026 World Cup squad and made 3 appearances in the tournament. Japan was eventually eliminated in the round of 32 after losing to Brazil.
Crystal Palace are currently in Italy for the Como Cup, and on Tuesday they will face French side Lens and Portuguese club Famalicão.
Crystal Palace will lose centre-back Maxence Lacroix this summer, and according to The Athletic on Thursday, Chelsea are close to finalizing the transfer of the French international for around £52 million (approximately $69.2 million).
Crystal Palace are looking for potential replacements for Lacroix, with Augsburg's Chrislan Massima being one of their targets. If they cannot sign Massima, Trabzonspor's Chibujk Nvaju is an alternative.
