Felix Nmega made a splash at this summer's World Cup, but ultimately couldn't prevent Germany's elimination by Paraguay in the round of 32. To cope with this bitter defeat, the Borussia Dortmund midfielder turned to faith for support.
“It didn’t take me very long to get over it. My faith certainly helped me, but it’s never easy,” Felix Nmega told Sky Sports Germany.
Nmega performed particularly well in Germany's first two group stage matches against Curaçao and Ivory Coast. Nevertheless, the harsh criticism following this humiliating defeat did not spare the Dortmund defensive midfielder.
"Actually, I didn't pay much attention to these things. I tried not to look at them too much. But ultimately, we were all certainly unhappy with the result, which was really upsetting," the 25-year-old player said, discussing his approach to dealing with criticism.
Nmega disagrees with blaming former German national team coach Julian Nagelsmann: "I'm not the kind of person who would quickly say 'it's the coach's problem' or anything like that. I think as players, we need to do things better."
